When I first visited Rio de Janeiro in 2021, the favelas looked and felt very different from what you see today. Rocinha already had some tourism, but Vidigal had almost none, making the experience feel far more local and untouched by the tourism boom that would follow. These three short videos were filmed during that trip with a few friends you might recognize, capturing a completely different time in Rio’s favelas. 🇧🇷
