It’s been about 25 years since I last stepped foot in Santo Domingo, and today I finally got the chance to explore the capital of the Dominican Republic again. I’m still fighting off the food poisoning that knocked me down a few days ago, so I definitely wasn’t running at 100%. To be fair, the city wasn’t exactly running at 100% either. For a Monday, October 5th, the streets were surprisingly quiet—in some places it honestly felt like a ghost town. It wasn’t the most exciting day of exploring, but that’s travel: not every day is going to be action-packed. Hopefully I wake up feeling stronger tomorrow, the streets come alive, and Santo Domingo shows me a little more of what I came here to find.
